|||On all three of your points, I think you're confusing what President Obama really believes with what he has to do to try to be President of all the people, not just the people who agree with him. Frankly, I think he compromises too much. He could have had the health care bill he wanted, with the public option, had he brought it to a vote a year ago, before Ted Kennedy died. He cared too much about trying to get consensus and cooperation from the Republicans, which he is never going to get no matter what he wants to do.
His actions regarding Afghanistan I think are a reaction to the usual criticism that Democrats are soft on terrorism. I don't think he should have fallen for that. No invader has ever won in Afghanistan, and no one ever will.
I highly doubt he "didn't care" about the public option. He was being realistic.
So, yes, he's not behaving in as liberal a manner as his detractors try to claim.
At this point, I think he should go for broke. He should give up on the idea of getting a second term and do what he knows is right, to be true to his basic principles. And, who knows--that could end up winning back his original supporters and get him that second term.
The Republican party will probably splinter into two groups: the extreme right-wing tea partiers and the more moderate faction. They'll destroy themselves.|||The answer is in your question. You mentioned right wing extremists. If there are extremists on the right, then it stands to follow there are extremists on the left.
Your points one and two may be correct but I feel you are wrong about three. Obama campaigned from the center but governs from the left enough so that the moderates who put him in office no longer support him. Looking at his polls verifys this. He has lost the center and without the center, he cannot win.
To prove he is far left, look at how he handled the healthcare matter or any other matter. He slammed the door shut on any input from the opposition party. This is not the change that he promised us. It's just more of the same.
He is also an empty suit. He had an opportunity early in the oil spill to form a brain-trust to solve the crisis but rather he chose to lie to us with all his "day-one" propaganda and playing the blame game. He focuses on blaming other... it's the mark of a very weak leader.|||It's true that up until he asked America to rebuild its
infrastructure by going green he had advanced no

The health care bill is a right wing version of insurance regulation,
maybe it can lead to a sort of reasonable behavior in health

It's all a matter of perspective. To an American liberal anything to the right of Karl Marx on the left/right spectrum is considered "moderate". By the same token to an American conservative anything to the left of JFK is considered a left wing radical....Obama is somewhere between Marx and JFK...but he's definitely closer to Marx....|||Obama has had to be a center moderate president, simply for the fact of the Blue Dogs.
